When we over-interpret things the very spark of that which intrigues us is almost all but removed. Loner Lawrence is the collective alter ego of producer duo Tim and Kaim, somewhat tentatively called into existence in March 2020 upon their self-released debut-album ‘Anathema is Easy’.
They have a long history of joint musical experimentation. This stretches back to founding a short-lived guitar-based post-punk outfit, to recording experimental noise-rock tracks on a Tascam Portastudio in Kaim’s dingy little apartment under the guise of “Lost Tapes”. They fondly reflect back on these times, the adolescent optimism in their first strides of musical independence, all the while they were trying to recreate the dark sounds of desperation captured in “Deathconsciousness”, a record which intrigued them for its unsettling honesty. In the meantime, their musical focus has shifted more towards electronic composition, but the joy of experimentation still remains the same today as it did then and probably is the only constant that defines Loner Lawrence. In 2020 they whimsically released their debut album “Anathema is Easy”. In its essence it is no more than a documentation of life-transitions, some heartbreaking, some rejoicing, and all framed within a deep running musical and intellectual friendship narrating the work. They believe the music they make reflects the creative relationship they have nurtured over the years, and the unseen (and unheard) process behind their published work is important, it is what makes the album “Parochial Living” special.
