Après Kardia, paru en 2015, Mourah revient enfin avec un nouvel album, Euphony, son troisième opus ,qui sortira le 28 janvier. Celui-ci fut composé et produit quelques mois avant que le monde ne connaisse une pandémie qui aura retardé tant de projets dans le monde artistique. Dans l’intervalle, deux premiers singles, Vagabond et Hashtag Notalways avaient laissé entrevoir la direction artistique assumée pour cette nouvelle aventure musicale. Euphony propose un univers sonore entre une élégante pop alternative, profonde aussi, et des réminiscences d’une trip-hop mélancolique qui inspira par le passé Mourah. Ici et là, quelques inflexions de soul et de jazz, venant soutenir une voix envoûtante qui, par instants, n’est pas sans rappeler celle d’une de ses références musicales, le regretté Prince. Le terme Euphony, qui découle du grec ancien εὐφωνία (euphōnía), signifie « harmonie de sons agréablement combinés » et c’est le fil conducteur de cet album : des mélodies simples et directes sans pour autant être simplistes, qui visent plus une réaction émotionnelle de paix intérieure plutôt qu’un défi intellectuel . Mourah a cherché ici à épurer sa composition d’une part, et sa production d’autre part. En effet, à l’heure où la technologie offre des possibilités infinies, l’homme-orchestre a ici fixé une limite de 16 pistes d’enregistrement maximum par morceau. Le but était de créer une certaine intimité avec l’auditeur. En seconde lecture, Euphony se transforme en une espèce de muse qui ensorcelle Mourah autour d’une histoire d’absence, d’abandon et de pardon racontée ici au fil des 10 titres proposés. Euphony symbolise pour Mourah la déesse de la musique, parfois cruelle, parfois, généreuse, mais toujours au centre de la passion qui anime l’artiste Genevois d’origine portugaise. L’album a été mixé et co-produit par l’ingénieur son et producteur Yvan Bing (Kitchen Studio, Genève) et masterisé par l’incontournable Mandy Parnell (Massive Attack, Radiohead, Björk, Jamie Liddell, Feist, notamment) au Black Saloon Studio à Londres. Mourah, multi-instrumentiste et producteur, poursuit son chemin solitaire d’auteur-compositeur-interprète pour nous dévoiler une approche à la musique plus épurée et intime, avec le souci de proposer une oeuvre intemporelle toujours accessible mais intelligente et profonde.
Enfin, à noter que l’album Euphony sera disponible en streaming sur les plateformes habituelles ainsi qu’en format LP Vinyl autour de fin février. Ce retard dans la manufacture est dû à la pandémie.

En soutien à la sortie de l’album, un troisième single - This is the day - est proposé avec un nouveau clip. Ce titre se présente comme un manifeste à la liberté et à l’affirmation de soi mais aussi à la nature humaine qui semble oublier qu’elle est issue de la nature qui l’entoure. Celle-ci est tant négligée aujourd’hui qu’elle risque de s’effondrer, et en conséquence de cela, de mettre en péril les générations futures. Musicalement, Mourah sert une instrumentation pop-soul ancrée à la terre où sa voix limpide prend de la hauteur. Un solo de guitare final évoque cet envol et un affranchissement individuel, un retour aux sources aussi. Le clip est construit comme un songe qui se situe quelque part au Brésil. D’un quai de gare emprunté au quotidien pour nos obligations de travail, soudain un voyage de couleurs et d’émotions s’empare du personnage. La pensée et l’imaginaire sont de merveilleux véhicules pour les escapades les plus exquises.

Euphony bietet ein Klanguniversum zwischen elegantem, alternativem Pop, der auch tiefgründig ist, und Anklängen an melancholischen Trip-Hop, der in der Vergangenheit Mourah inspirierte. Hier und da gibt es einige Soul- und Jazz-Anklänge, die eine fesselnde Stimme unterstützen, die in manchen Momenten an eine seiner musikalischen Referenzen, den verstorbenen Prince, erinnert. Das Wort Euphony, der vom altgriechischen εὐφωνία (euphōnía) abgeleitet ist, bedeutet "Harmonie angenehm kombinierter Klänge", und das ist der rote Faden dieses Albums: einfache und direkte Melodien, ohne dabei simpel zu sein, die eher auf eine emotionale Reaktion des inneren Friedens abzielen als auf eine intellektuelle Herausforderung. Diese wird heute so sehr vernachlässigt, dass sie Gefahr läuft, zu kollabieren und als Folge davon künftige Generationen zu gefährden. Musikalisch serviert Mourah eine geerdete Pop-Soul Instrumentierung, in der seine klare Stimme an Höhe gewinnt. Ein abschließendes Gitarrensolo erinnert eine individuelle Befreiung, auch eine Rückkehr zu den Wurzeln. Der Clip ist wie ein Traum aufgebaut, der irgendwo in Brasilien angesiedelt ist. Von einem Bahnsteig aus, den wir täglich für unsere Arbeitsverpflichtungen benutzen, ergreift die Figur plötzlich eine Reise der Farben und Emotionen. Das Denken und die Vorstellungskraft sind wunderbare Vehikel für die herrlichsten Eskapaden.

After Kardia, released in 2015, Mourah is finally back with a new album, Euphony, his third opus which will be released on January 28th. This album was composed and produced a few months before the world was hit by a pandemic that delayed so many projects in the art world. In the meantime, two previous singles, Vagabond and Hashtag Notalways, had given a glimpse of the artistic direction assumed for this new musical adventure. Euphony proposes a sound universe between an elegant and deep alternative pop and reminiscences of a melancholic trip-hop that inspired Mourah in the past. Here and there, a few inflections of soul and jazz, supporting a bewitching voice which, at times, is reminiscent of one of his musical references, the late Prince. The term Euphony, which derives from the ancient Greek εὐφωνία (euphōnía), means "harmony of pleasantly combined sounds" and that's the thread that runs through this album: simple, straightforward melodies without being simplistic, aimed more at an emotional reaction of inner peace rather than an intellectual challenge . Mourah has sought here to purify his composition on the one hand, and his production on the other. Indeed, at a time when technology offers infinite possibilities, the one-man band has set a limit of 16 recording tracks per piece. The aim was to create a certain intimacy with the listener. On a second reading, Euphony becomes a kind of muse that bewitches Mourah around a story of absence, abandonment and forgiveness told here over the course of the 10 tracks offered. Euphony symbolises for Mourah the goddess of music, sometimes cruel, sometimes generous, but always at the centre of the passion that drives the Portuguese-born artist from Geneva. A final guitar solo evokes this flight and an individual emancipation, a return to the roots as well.
The video is constructed like a dream set somewhere in Brazil. From a station platform used for our daily work obligations, suddenly a journey of colours and emotions takes hold of the character. Thought and imagination are wonderful vehicles for the most exquisite escapades.
